Film magic in the Salzkammergut: Hallstatt, Bad Ischl

The Salzkammergut with its rural lakes, romantic villages and breathtaking mountain landscapes provides a perfect backdrop for films. Hallstatt and Bad Ischl in particular were popular filming locations. The following films were shot in this region:

Sissi Trilogy (1955-1957)

The world-famous "Sissi" trilogy starring Romy Schneider is an excellent example of films that capture the beauty of the Salzkammergut. The imperial hunting lodge in Bad Ischl was an important filming location during the filming of the trilogy. It was depicted as the summer residence of the imperial family and home of Empress Elisabeth, better known as Sissi.

James Bond: Spectre (2015)

Hollywood has also discovered the picturesque landscape of the Salzkammergut. The James Bond film "Spectre" from 2015 used the surroundings of the Salzkammergut, or more precisely, of Altaussee.

The Wall (2012)

The drama "The Wall", based on the novel of the same name by Marlen Haushofer, was also filmed in the Salzkammergut region. The main actress (played by Martina Gedeck) suddenly finds herself cut off from the outside world by an invisible wall. The impressive and at the same time oppressive natural beauty of the alpine landscape forms the backdrop for the plot.

Hallstatt in Chinese films and series

Hallstatt has become a popular tourist destination in China and has even served as a backdrop for various Chinese films and TV series. The town's spectacular scenery and charming architecture have made Hallstatt the ideal location for romantic dramas. The town even became so popular that it was replicated in the Chinese province of Guangdong.

The film world of the Salzkammergut has already enchanted many filmmakers and viewers worldwide and will continue to be an inspiring backdrop for many more films in the future.
